What are some cool costume ideas?

I'm a 21/f but I don't like the usual "slutty whatever" costumes that girls' my age dress in. Also, I'll be out on Halloween and don't want to freeze. I was thinking of Carmen San Diego, but it might be hard to execute. What are some cool unconventional costumes that wouldn't be too hard or cost too much to put together?
